Money or Family?

As some people already know, I live in the USA with my husband and my baby girl. Since he is a student, I am here staying at home taking care of the baby and cooking. My problem is I want to make money. I like traveling around and I want to visit James's family with Yuri, but I can't since James makes so little money as a student. I feel that if I go back to Korea, I will be able to start working and make money. I feel like doing nothing here... Should I go back to Korea with Yuri and start working there or just stay here in the US and not make money and stay with my husband and support him..?

It is a huge dilemma...

What would you do if you were me? I need some suggestion..

  1. Have you thought about getting a job teaching Korean here in the US? If you move back to Korea it might create loneliness for you and your husband.

  2. Why not work in the U.S.? I think you would be able to find a job, since you have your university degree. If not possible, would it be possible for James to finish schooling in Korea? I think it would be best to stay as a familial unit, for support and famaliarity.

For Yuri, I'm concerned about her treatment if she lived in Korea. Although, my mother's native country is a fantastic place, it isn't the most accomodating towards foreigners, much less for half korean hybrids like myself. Although I appreciate my mixture now, when I grew up in Korea, I remember disdaining my black heritage, being discriminated agaisnt and so on. Of course you must have felt some of the discrimination dating a black man, then marrying him. If Yuri grows up in Korea, I'm sure she will also experience a lot of it. Just be careful.

  3. What about translating documents for a company/museum?
You can sometimes work at home so you won't have to pay for a baby sitter. Museums and touristic places are really a good thing, in my country they need to translate some documents for the foreign clients. I don't know how it works in the US.

Also, you can work as an interpreter for events like exhibitions, or hospitals, companies, Korean associations, etc. Contact the Korean embassy in the US, they might be recruiting for part time/full time jobs in administration or for events.
